A spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration has confirmed to People.com that the Heene family is under federal investigation for possibly violating agency regulations when they allegedly released a helium balloon for two hours into FAA-monitored airspace above Fort Collins-Loveland Municipal Airport and Denver International Airport. The spokesman would not comment on how long the investigation may take, but he did acknowledge that “this is a particularly peculiar [case].”
