Fall's craziest box sets

AC/DC, Miles Davis, and Yo-Yo Ma have hugely expensive collections out this season

AC/DC, BACKTRACKS DELUXE COLLECTOR’S EDITION
WHY IT’S NUTS
This rarities set (available at acdcback tracks.com) includes three CDs, two DVDs, one record…and an actual, working guitar amplifier. Plug in your Gibson SG and play along!
IS IT WORTH THE $200?
Only if you’re a fanatic. ”Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap” is an awesome song. But does anyone need five versions of it?
Clark Collis

MILES DAVIS, THE COMPLETE COLUMBIA ALBUM COLLECTION
WHY IT’S NUTS
A whopping 71 discs are collected in this Amazon exclusive (out Nov. 24), including world-changing classics like Kind of Blue, lesser-known gems like Filles De Kilimanjaro, and tons of live sets.
IS IT WORTH THE $365?
Any jazz aficionado already owns the best of these albums, but lovely LP-replica packaging for each CD makes the collection a completist’s dream.

YO-YO MA, 30 YEARS OUTSIDE THE BOX
WHY IT’S NUTS
That Miles box not big enough for you? Try this 90-CD monster, which includes all of the cello master’s albums and a hefty hardcover book.
IS IT WORTH THE $790?
That’s some major moola, and classical purists might not want to shell out for some of his poppier albums. But the diversity and quality of Ma’s work are astonishing, and at less than $9 a disc, this just might be worth it.
