Superior Donuts, a Broadway comedy by Pulitzer-winning playwright Tracy Letts (August: Osage County), will close on Jan. 3, its producers announced today. The show, which stars Spinal Tap veteran Michael McKean as the hippie proprietor of a decrepit doughnut shop in uptown Chicago, opened Sept. 30 at Broadway’s Music Box Theatre to generally strong reviews, including a B from EW critic Melissa Rose Bernardo. Like Letts’ August: Osage County, the production originated at Chicago’s famed Steppenwolf.
