ABC announced today that George Stephanopoulos will replace Diane Sawyer as co-host of Good Morning America starting Monday. Stephanopoulos has been host of This Week on Sundays and will continue as the network’s chief political correspondent as he begins his new gig co-hosting the No. 2-ranked morning show with Robin Roberts. “In putting this new GMA team together, we’ve pursued one goal,” said ABC News President David Westin in a statement. “How can we best serve our audience? How can we bring them what matters most to them — the day’s important news, engaging stories, useful information and real expertise to help them improve their lives?”

Sawyer will become the new anchor of World News beginning Dec. 21. In other GMA moves, Juju Chang has been named the news anchor while Chris Cuomo has been promoted to co-anchor of 20/20 alongside Elizabeth Vargas. Sam Champion will remain the weather anchor on the morning show.
