The History channel is taking the plunge into scripted programming with The Kennedys, an eight-hour miniseries about the iconic American political family. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the project, created by 24 exec producer Joel Surnow, is scheduled to begin production in the spring for a 2011 premiere. Former 24 co-executive producer Stephen Kronish is writing all eight scripts, while fellow 24 alumnus Jon Cassar is slated to direct. The miniseries will kick off with John F. Kennedy’s victory in the 1960 election and end with the assassination of his brother, Robert F. Kennedy in 1968.
