Erica Rhodes: 'Idol' hopeful, 'Barney' veteran, and whip girl

Don’t just call American Idol hopeful Erica Rhodes “the Barney girl turned dominatrix.” This Texan hopeful describes herself as nothing less than “aspiring actress, singer, dancer, model, writer.” Whew. She previously studied broadcast journalism (see her in a student video here) and trained at the Debbie Allen Dance Academy (per the LA Times) and danced with the now-defunct Dallas Desperados. Judge her acting chops for yourself in this music video for Trap Starz Clik’s “Get It Big”.

But Idol fans will want to hear more of her music – her YouTube channel includes this unreleased song “Nothing Left to Lose” (video embedded below). She also sings the track “Thing Called Love” for Doubleback Music. Erica’s MySpace page has the same song.

And after the jump, see a video capturing behind the scenes moments from her Idol audition. In his comprehensive recap of last night, Michael Slezak already called her “Whippi Longstocking” and said her vocal ability was “middling.” (Need reminding of the Barney clips and the jarring use of that whip? Her clip from the show is here.)

PopWatchers, what did you think of Erica’s voice…and her outfit? What would Barney think of that whip?
