We gave it a B+

Walker’s had an unclassifiable career: He started in hair metal and was last seen playing banjolin for Taylor Swift at the Grammys. I Liked It Better When You Had No Heart, the latest solo-ish effort from the part-time producer (Pink, Weezer), is similarly hard to pin down. Is it alt-country? Cranky pop? AM-gold punk rock? Does it matter? Fueled by killer retro strings and wry anthropological lyrics (”She likes hair bands on satellite radio/But I was in one, so it’s a little too close to home”), Heart is a lovable mutt. B+
