Taylor Kitsch boards 'Battleship' movie

Apparently there’s also a sci-fi angle to the film, pitting the Navy against some kind of alien armada. (Unidentified floating objects, anyone?)

Kitsch’s casting is in line with the recent trend of putting up-and-comers at the center of tentpole pics (Chris Evans in Captain America, Garrett Hedlund in Tron). And why not? The concept is the star anyway, and these guys give you all the hunk of an A-list actor for a fraction of the price.

Do you think Kitsch’s credits on Friday Night Lights and Wolverine qualify him to take the helm on Battleship? Or would you rather have an A-Lister steering the ship? And how does Battleship rank among the list of board games getting the big-screen treatment?
