Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese and others call for release of Iranian director

Steve Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, and Francis Ford Coppola have rallied to support the release of jailed Iranian director Jafar Panahi, Reuters reports. The directors, and other filmmakers and actors like Robert De Niro, have signed a petition for the Iranian government, calling for Panahi to be released. The director, who has helmed movies like The White Balloon, was jailed after supporting Iranian opposition leader Mirhossein Mousavi in last year’s election. He is being held in Tehran’s Evin prison.
