Kristen Stewart squeezes Walter Salles 'On the Road' in between 'Twilight' duties

Kristen Stewart, the reluctant Twilight megastar, has managed to fit another indie film into her busy schedule. Sources confirm to EW.com that Stewart will play Marylou, Dean Moriarty’s young wife in the film adaptation of Jack Kerouac’s On the Road. Walter Salles (The Motorcycle Diaries) will direct and filming will begin August 1 in New Orleans and Montreal. Timing works perfectly for Stewart, who is currently ensconced in publicity duties for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse and is set to begin production on The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn in October.

Garrett Hedlund, the star of Disney’s upcoming sci-fi actioner Tron: Legacy, will play the restless drifter Moriarty while British thespian Sam Riley (24 Hour Party People) portrays his traveling companion Sal. USA Today first reported the news yesterday.

French financier MK2 International is funding the production.
