People.com has a roundup of the visits this season’s American Idol finalists made to their hometowns on Friday, following the action as Lee DeWyze, Crystal Bowersox, and Casey James reunited with friends and family, were honored by their communities, and gave performances for enthusiastic fans. The visits were taped for this week’s broadcast of Idol.
Lee DeWyze, 24, traveled home to Chicago, where he visited his old high school and the paint shop where he worked before his Idol journey began, threw out the first pitch at a Cubs game, and performed for more than 41,000 fans at Arlington Park Racetrack.
Crystal Bowersox, 24, was feted with a parade in her hometown of Toledo, Ohio, and received the key to the city from the mayor. She gave a performance downtown for about 5,000 fans, and sang for another 4,000 at the Ottawa County Fairgrounds. Bowersox also threw out the first pitch at a Toledo Mud Hens game, and played a set at a local tavern.
Casey James, 27, traveled to Texas for two full days of appearances: He visited the Fort Worth hospital where he was treated after a serious motorcycle accident six years ago, played a set at a local club, and was given the key to the city. The next morning, he went home to Cool, Texas, to perform for 4,000 at his high school.
