British screenwriter Simon Monjack, 39, was found dead on Sunday night, just five months after the passing of his wife, actress Brittany Murphy, People.com reports. The Los Angeles Fire Department was reportedly called to the couple’s home, where Monjack was pronounced dead; a police spokesman told People that the preliminary report attributed Monjack’s demise to natural causes, but investigators remained at the scene.
Murphy died December 20, 2009, at age 32 due to “pneumonia, an iron deficiency and multiple drug intoxication” related to cold medicines she had been taking.
Monjack’s IMDb page credits him as a writer and producers of 2006’s Factory Girl and 2001’s Two Days, Nine Lives; he married Murphy in 2007.
UPDATE: People reports Monjack was due for heart bypass surgery at the time of his death.
