American Idol carried Fox to victory Tuesday night, brushing aside competition from competing season-finales and edging ABC’s Dancing With the Stars, according to preliminary ratings results. Idol (19.6 million viewers) crushed the 8 o’clock hour before DWTS‘ two-hour finale (18.2 million) waltzed all over the competition. CBS’s scripted programs drew substantial numbers, but Idol, DWTS, and NBC’s The Biggest Loser (9.9 million) prevented NCIS (15.9 million), NCIS-LA (13.1 million), and The Good Wife (10.5 million) from fully taking advantage of their season finales. All three dramas drew larger audiences last week. Though Glee (11.4 million) placed third overall on the night in its 9 o’clock time slot, it did beat out Loser and the rest of its competition in the adult 18-49 demographic (4.8/13).
