Women tend to hide secrets in the original scripts of filmmaker Neil Jordan (The Crying Game). In the wee fairy tale Ondine, a lonely Irish fisherman named Syracuse (Colin Farrell) catches in his net the mysterious, eponymous, dripping-wet lady (Polish lovely Alicja Bachleda). She might be a mythical selkie — part woman, part seal. Or not. Curlicues of arbitrary complication (Syracuse’s spunky young daughter in a wheelchair, his boozing ex-wife, his baleful priest played by Stephen Rea) cling to Ondine like bits of weightless seaweed that wash away by the fable’s end.
