Image Credit: Dimitrios Kambouris/WireImage.comMarvel’s Black Panther — widely credited as the first-ever mainstream black comic book superhero — may not yet have his own feature film adaptation, but he is finally getting his own animated series. Black Panther: Who is the Black Panther? will premiere June 23 as a 12-episode weekly “motion comic” series on iTunes, Xbox Live, Microsoft Zune, and the PlayStation Network. Djimon Hounsou (Blood Diamond) voices the title hero, also called T’Challa, the warrior king of the fictional African country of Wakanda, a resource-rich nation threatened with invasion by a cabal led by the assassin known as Klaw. (Because, in comics, why use the letter “C” when “K” is clearly much sexier?) Kerry Washington (Mr. and Mrs. Smith), Alfre Woodard (Desperate Housewives), and Carl Lumbly (Alias) also lend their voices to the project, as well as Black Panther’s creator, the inimitable Stan Lee.
After the jump, check out an exclusive first look at the trailer for the series.
