'SYTYCD' winner: 'I really didn't think it was going to happen for me'

It’s official. America has crowned a winner for season 7 of So You Think You Can Dance. [SPOILERS AHEAD, so stop reading now if you’ve got last night’s episode stored on your DVR.]

Yes, folks,a hearty congrats to Lauren Froderman, who called the EW offices this morning the chat about her (very) recent win, future plans, and an epic food fight.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: You won! How are you feeling after last night’s finale?
LAUREN FRODERMAN: I mean, it’s definitely like a high. It’s really cool. I can’t even believe it actually happened.

So did you think someone else was going to win?
Kent just had a huge fan base the whole season. I just really thought the way the judges were talking and the way the fans scream when we go on stage, it just seemed like he was possibly going to win this season. I really didn’t think it was going to happen for me, but I was very surprised. I’m very, very grateful for all my fans and all the support.

How does it feel to be the new face of Gatorade?
That is so amazing. I can’t even really tell you how excited I am for that. When they announced me as the winner last night, they also gave me a Gatorade bottle. It had my picture on it, and it said So You Think You Can Dance. It was just crazy. It’s really cool that dancers are being acknowledged as athletes. I feel really honored to represent dancers with Gatorade.

You’ve got the tour coming up, but what’s next after that?
I know I want to work on my acting, get an acting coach, and just try to be as diverse as possible. As dancers, it’s really beneficial if you want to work in the industry to be able to do more than just dance. And I would love to be multi-talented and just be able to audition for lots of different jobs and grow as an artist.

You said last night that your favorite dance was your prom dance with Kent. So who was your favorite dance partner?
I have to say that the best partner I danced with on the show was probably Pasha because ballroom was such a scary element for me. I’ve never done that before. He was a very good partner, a really good teacher, and always there for me. He helped me out so much throughout this competition.

Any behind the scenes stories that you want to share with the readers?
I can tell you that this last week when we were preparing for the finale, Robert, Kent, and I had a crazy food fight in one of the apartments. It was so bad. It was disastrous. One of the walls was definitely just tragic. We made a pact that whoever won would have to pay for the damages. So it looks like I have to! [laughs]

Really? Who started it?
Kent. He poured water on me for no reason whatsoever. So I had to get him back. It just got ugly.
