Some movie-loving folks here at EW Towers live for late fall, when Oscar-hungry studios gift us their challenging, scrunchy-faced dramas. Others can’t wait for the blockbuster season of June and July, with its giant robot-ing and troubled superhero-ing and “What the hell has Nicolas Cage done with his hair?”-ing. Personally, I love this time of year, when late summer stumbles, zombie-like, into the lead-up to Halloween, and Hollywood releases a new horror film pretty much every freakin’ week.
Last Friday, for example, Piranha 3D munched its way into cinemas – and into Jerry O’Connell’s nether regions – while today sees the release of the Eli Roth-produced The Last Exorcism. Next week, Machete hits theaters, and though it’s not a horror movie, it looks like it will feature gore aplenty. Seven days after that, Milla Jovovich will be kicking the rotting rump of zombies yet again in Resident Evil: Afterlife. Also coming down the pike in the next couple of months: the M. Night Shyamalan-produced Devil, the kiddie vampire-featuring Let Me In, the Renée Zellweger-starring Case 39, the Wes Craven-directed My Soul To Take, Saw 3D, Paranormal Activity 2, I Spit on Your Grave, and Monsters.
