Fall TV preview: Life Unexpected

Returning Drama, 9-10 PM, The CW

The second-season order of Life Unexpected — the sweet series about a teenager, Lux (Britt Robertson), who reconnects with her biological parents, Cate (Shiri Appleby) and Baze (Kristoffer Polaha) — came with a few strings from The CW. ”We were given a mandate of really treading new ground,” says exec producer Liz Tigelaar, who is accomplishing that mission by adding several faces to the cast. That means Cate gets a conservative foil (24’s Amy Price-Francis) on her radio show, Baze gets a new love interest (Gilmore Girls’ Arielle Kebbel), and Lux will cross paths romantically with a high school teacher (Melrose Place’s Shaun Sipos). Also crossing paths will be Life and One Tree Hill when OTH characters Haley (Bethany Joy Galeotti) and Mia (Kate Voegele) show up and perform along with Sarah McLachlan at a music festival in the Oct. 12 episode.
