'Children's Hospital': Adult Swim commissions another season of the show that heals patients with laughter (but not medicine!)

childrens-hospitalImage Credit: Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc.I’ve spent so much time staring at Rob Corddry’s shiny pate this year, I’m amazed I haven’t gone blind. Just last night I was watching him play a sleazy lawyer on Community and, of course, a few months back the Daily Show graduate starred in Hot Tub Time Machine. While recently researching an interview with Adam Scott, I even caught Corddry fighting the Piranha 3D star in the oddly colon-ized and just plain bizarre movie Operation: Endgame. And if you’re thinking, “Well, that’s an odd pair of pugilists!” then you clearly haven’t seen this straight-to-video effort, which also features Ellen Barkin squaring off against Mr. Show star Bob Odenkirk.

But, more often than not, I’ve been watching Mr. Corddry on Children’s Hospital.

The comedian created this scabrous and hilarious medical soap spoof during the writers’ strike, and stars as the, literally, clownish Dr. Blake Downs alongside Megan Mullally, Ken Marino, Lake Bell, and a bunch of other folks who clearly believe the only thing funnier than a brain tumor is what the show delights in calling “butt cancer.”

The good news for Childrens Hospital fans is that Adult Swim announced today that it has picked up Corddry’s creation for another season with principal photography on 14 new episodes starting later this year. For the benefit of Children’s Hospital virgins, I’ve embedded below the trailer for the current season, which airs on Sunday nights. But, be warned – despite its title, Childrens Hospital is very much not for the young, or the easily offended.
