This season of Community has been, among other things, a confident ode to pop culture, taking on everything from the zombie genre and RoboCop to a Secret Garden/Mean Girls overlap. And now, the students of Greendale are taking on another gem: the stop-motion holiday special. We first heard about it this fall, and now, there’s a glorious photo to further whet the collective appetite.

Community is the first show I watch on Thursday nights, and that’s saying something. I love 30 Rock, I love Big Bang Theory, I have to watch The Office, Grey’s has had this ridiculous resurgence this season and I’m obsessed again, and sometimes Bones can’t wait for the weekend. But my first choice is always Community.

In “Abed’s Uncontrollable Christmas,” the gang worries about Abed’s “intense fixation” on the holiday. From NBC’s official description:

When Abed (Danny Pudi) wakes up in stop-motion animation, he takes it as a sign that he and the group must re-discover the meaning of Christmas. Meanwhile, Jeff (Joel McHale) and Britta (Gillian Jacobs) become growingly concerned about Abed’s mental health and enlist the help of Professor Duncan (John Oliver). The group undergoes hypnosis to explore Abed’s winter wonderland and soon unravel the truth behind Abed’s madness.

Is it Dec. 9 yet? I cannot wait. (My Festivus wish this year? That the writers of Community would blog every single allusion, the way Javier Grillo-Marxuach used to do for The Middleman back in the day.)

Okay, PopWatchers, let’s hear it: You’d set a season pass for Troy and Abed in the Morning, right? And you’d live in that majestic blanket fort in a heartbeat? Knowing how well the show can do genre parodies, doesn’t this video make you hope for a noir episode?
