Sundance: Oscar nominee John Hawkes talks 'Martha Marcy May Marlene'

Newcomer Elizabeth Olsen is quite impressive as Martha (aka Marcy May, aka Marlene), while the supporting cast features Sarah Paulsen, Hugh Dancy, and newly-minted Oscar nominee John Hawkes as the scarily charming cult leader, named Patrick.

Before the film was picked up by Fox Searchlight for release later this year, the four castmates (along with director Sean Durkin) stopped by our EW photo studio and discussed why they prefer the word “family” to the word “cult,” how they made such a supremely creepy film, and whether Hawkes should be pursuing a second career as a recording artist.
