Schneider was just 19 when Bernardo Bertolucci cast her as Jeanne in Last Tango in Paris, a role Schnieder said made her “go mad.” She told the Daily Mail in 2007 that she felt “a little raped, both by Marlon and by Bertolucci,” and that she felt manipulated into and humiliated by the film’s sexual content. After Paris, Schneider filmed The Passenger, with Jack Nicholson, and appeared in 1996’s Jane Eyre, as well as amassing nearly 50 other roles, mostly in French television and cinema. [People, AFP]
