Image Credit: John Sciulli/Getty ImagesAccording to the Twitter feed for Late Show with David Letterman (and confirmed later by an official press release), Lindsay Lohan is set to appear on Thursday’s show via satellite to deliver the Top Ten List. If she pulls it off, it could be a shrewd career move for a woman who could really use one. UPDATE: The Late Show has announced that Lohan will not appear on the show. In a statement, they admitted making a mistake: “Someone purporting to be a friend of Lindsay’s reached out to the show yesterday, allegedly on her behalf, and booked her to appear. Clearly, this person was not authorized to make commitments on her behalf. We wish Lindsay well, and look forward to having her on the show in the future.”
Lohan has been at her best when she’s poking fun at herself, even throughout her more troubled years. (Remember those great Saturday Night Live appearances?) And since the actress’ recent legal troubles — getting charged with felony grand theft after allegedly stealing a priced-at $2,500 necklace from a store in Venice, Calif. — have been plastered across nearly every tabloid or entertainment news site, it’s a good bet that she’ll use her Late Show appearance to begin building back her fanbase via some soul-searching self-deprecation. (And seeing as the felony charge might not hold water, according to reports, it could be a good time for the actress to drum up some sympathy.)
Of course, the more pressing question is: What will the title of Lohan’s Top Ten List be?
It’s likely that Late Show will focus on Lohan’s legal problems (“Ten Things I Didn’t Steal”? With “Just My Luck audiences’ hearts” being one of the answers? Or “Booze, from a Fully Loaded Herbie“?), but part of me is hoping that the show will shoot for nostalgia, and remind us why she was once American’s Almost-Sweetheart. Lindsay Lohan’s Top Ten Fetch Moments?
What do you think her Top Ten List should focus on, PopWatchers? And, please, try extra-hard to be nice. Let’s cut the girl a break, shall we?
