Jeffrey Tambor (Arrested Development, The Larry Sanders Show) has withdrawn from the current Broadway revival of La Cage aux Folles. Six-time Emmy nominee Tambor, who replaced Kelsey Grammer in the role of nightclub emcee Georges a little over a week ago, “was experiencing complications from recent hip surgery,” wrote the show’s producers in an official statement. “The pain and the challenge of performing in a musical eight times a week proved to be too physically demanding. We respect his talent enormously and regretfully accept his withdrawal from the production.” Understudy Chris Hoch filled in for Tambor on Feb. 25, and a permanent replacement will be announced soon.
