UPDATED II: Casey Abrams, who was hospitalized during last night’s American Idol show, is suffering from ulcerative colitis, reports People. The condition, which is characterized by abdominal pain and severe cramps, required two blood transfusions last night.

UPDATED: American Idol host Ryan Seacrest revealed on air that contestant Casey Abrams couldn’t attend tonight’s Top 13 results show because the 20-year-old singer was in the hospital. Abrams previously checked into a hospital two weeks ago complaining of stomach pains, and reportedly received a blood transfusion then.

Seacrest didn’t provide any details regarding what ailment sent the contestant back to the hospital today, and Fox had no comment. But Abrams posted this message to his Twitter feed roughly three hours after the results show broadcast to the East coast: “hey guys, thanks for the well wishes, I got some nice fresh blood in me and feeling better. People at Idol & Cedars [Sinai hospital] are treatin me real good.” Abrams also posted a message for Ashthon Jones, the first Idol finalist voted off the show Thursday night: “I love you girl. I know for a fact we will meet up again in the near future. And your hair better be even bigger next time.”

Abrams performed the Joe Cocker version of The Beatles’ “With a Little Help from My Friends” Wednesday night, and received high praise from the show’s judges.
