Whichever side is victorious in the epic battle of Zombies vs. Robots, the ultimate winners will be the comic book’s creators at IDW Publishing. When Michael Bay recently acquired the film rights to ZVR, he was just the latest producer to tap the company’s creative brain trust. Fox is shooting a pilot for a supernatural thriller based on IDW’s series Locke & Key, written by novelist Joe Hill, while Jerry Bruckheimer‘s company is developing a script for World War Robot, and even former Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash, looking to break into the business as a producer, has optioned its Frankenstein retelling Wake the Dead. ”Whatever happens with the movies, that’s fine and good,” says the publisher’s chief creative officer, Chris Ryall. ”But if it gets more people reading the books, that’s even better.”
