'Glee' will perform Lady Gaga in super-sized episode April 26 -- but it's not a tribute

April 26 is going to be the Gleekiest night on television when Glee goes super-sized for a special 90-minute episode that “pays homage to Mother Monster herself, Lady Gaga” by performing “Born This Way,” Fox announced today via press release. (Not mentioned by Fox: How the network, no doubt, hopes the super-sized episode will totally upstage the premiere of The Voice on NBC).

New Directions will only perform Gaga’s just-released single, a source tells EW. But Gaga will still be felt throughout the episode as it is “more about her message.” Translation: heavy issue, right ahead! Just peek at what Fox issued today:

In the “Born This Way” episode, Mr. Schuester (Matthew Morrison) teaches the glee club a valuable lesson about self-acceptance and embracing what makes you unique through the music of Lady Gaga. Meanwhile, Lauren Zizes (guest star Ashley Fink) and Quinn Fabray (Dianna Agron) go toe-to-toe for the prom queen crown, Ms. Pillsbury (Jayma Mays) confronts her obsessive issues, Rachel Berry (Lea Michele) struggles with a life-altering decision and Santana Lopez (Naya Rivera) has something up her sleeve that could permanently alter the glee club dynamic.

Zizes vs. Fabray for prom queen?! Um, yes, please.

Strap in, Gleeks, it’s going to be a long night.
