Producer Christine Vachon is already a legend in the film world for indies like Boys Don’t Cry (1999) and Far From Heaven (2002). And now that her first miniseries, HBO’s Mildred Pierce — starring Kate Winslet and directed by Todd Haynes — is a critical hit, the small screen might play a bigger role in the future of her company, Killer Films. ”We love working in TV, and [Mildred] only reinforced that desire,” says Vachon, 49. Today she’s working on several new film projects and is in talks with HBO about a top secret new series. ”What makes something theatrical, what makes something TV — those distinctions are breaking down,” says Vachon. ”We just keep going after the stories we want to tell, and they kind of tell us where they need to be.”
