So far Simon Cowell has likely picked one judge for X Factor that 61 percent of Americans won’t understand (ultra-Brit Cheryl Cole) and definitely selected another that 98 percent have never heard of (L.A. Reid).* Could some homegrown star power be next on the list?

Cowell told reporters that Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie is in the running for a spot on the show, plus he says Gloria Estefan is also in contention after mentoring some X Factor audition hopefuls in Miami.

The duo join names ranging from Jessica Simpson to Paula Abdul that Cowell has mentioned as being considered for a spot on the judges’ panel, but Cowell adds Fox and fellow producers are still a ways off from having a verdict.

“We are still having nightly arguments with everyone, trying to get everyone to agree,” he said. “If you asked everyone involved on this show who they would like on the panel, you would have 25 different opinions.”
