The Voice saved the best for last. No, the show is far from over, but the Battle Round concluded last night and the field was cut to 16 hopefuls after four memorable duets featured perplexing costumes, stirring vocals, and a kiss that would’ve made Mitch & Mickey proud.

Jeff Jenkins dressed down for his duet of “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me” with the more-Elton inspired Casey Desmond, but boy’s got pipes to get away with it. Xenia and Sara Oromchi were tasked with a difficult song, “I’ll Stand By You,” that wouldn’t be any teen girl’s first choice. Lily Elise blew everyone away on “Since U Been Gone” — with her outfit! — but that was enough to send Cherie Oakley home. And then, Emily Valentine and Curtis Grimes sealed “Need You Now” with a kiss. So sweet that no one even minded that Lady Antebellum’s song is about drunken booty calls.
