We gave it a B

This follow-up to the tween-hit Traveling Pants series checks in with the four friends a decade after we last saw them. What starts out as literary comfort food, however, abruptly takes a devastating turn when tragedy strikes. Pants fans will likely feel betrayed by the author’s choice and the dark tone that follows. But push on, and there is a deftly told narrative of finding one’s adult self in Sisterhood Everlasting. Ultimately, Brashares plays a little trick with the plot that allows the friends (and readers) their happy ending — and maybe that’s okay for a series originally based on a pair of magical jeans. B
