'Hell's Kitchen' return tops Monday despite ratings drop

(Fox)

Fox’s Hell’s Kitchen returned Monday night to its lowest-rated premiere ever, yet still managed to rank as the night’s highest-rated show.

Hell’s came back to 5.8 million viewers and a 2.5 preliminary rating among adults 18-49 – down 14 percent from last year. Still, this is the show’s ninth cycle, Gordon Ramsay has been shouting at inept cooks over burnt scallops for awhile now, and the lead-in gave a tiny boost to Masterchef (5.6 million, 2.3) to help Fox win the night.

Over on ABC, The Bachelorette (7.8 million, 2.2) didn’t like the added competition, with its first hour dipping sharply against Hell’s. Overall the reality veteran was down 15 percent from last week, followed by Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition (5.9 million, 2.0).
