'The Shield' showrunner sells crime pilot to CBS

Shawn Ryan has lined up a new crime drama project with a fringe science twist.

The showrunner behind FX’s The Shield and Fox’s Chicago Code is teaming with Criminal Minds writer-producer Simon Mirren for a new CBS pilot. The pitch: A geneticist uses his newfound discovery that he has the “psychopath gene” to help the FBI catch killers.

The network has ordered the untitled project as a “put pilot” (a promise to shoot a pilot that contains substantial penalties for the network if it’s never aired, which increases the likelihood the project will receive a series order). Ryan previously teamed with CBS as an executive producer on The Unit.
