Kardashian wedding ratings strong, but not record setting

Kim Kardashian Wedding

(Michael Simon, Albert Ferreira/Startraks and Nick)

Kim Kardashian’s wedding delivered a large rating for E! as one might expect. Yet the audience for the much-hyped two-night event couldn’t top previous records set by the most-popular episodes of Keeping Up With the Kardashians. We’ll get into that and, below, the second-week ratings for Showtime’s Dexter and Homeland.

Kim’s Fairytale Wedding: A Kardashian Event delivered 4.4 million viewers Sunday night and topped all of cable in the adult demo (2.1 rating). Then, on Monday night, Part 2 dipped to 4.0 million. Those are great numbers for a cable reality show and rank among the strongest Kardashians performances, but you could have expected something bigger – the fifth season premiere of Kardashians back in August easily beat it (4.7 million viewers), and so did the fourth season finale in February (4.8 million).

Meanwhile, the second week of Dexter (1.7 million) and Homeland (938,000) dipped to varying degrees.

With repeats factored in, Dexter fell 18 percent (was anybody else put off by the somewhat cartoonish tone of last week’s return?), while Homeland was down a mere 8 percent. Still: Strong numbers for Dexter, while Showtime is pleased with the retention Homeland has demonstrated so far. Over on HBO, Hung averaged 1 million viewers, down slightly from last week.

Over on HBO, modest numbers for the return of Bored to Death (240,000) and the series premiere of the Showtime-y semi-comedy Enlightened (210,000).
