Male stripper movie Magic Mike has already proven itself a gift that keeps on giving. Two of the stars are making headlines today for talking about the movie that they’re not even promoting yet. Matt Bomer shared a great story with MTV News about his first run-in with a thong. “I had never worn a thong before, so the first time I tried it, I put it on wrong and my junk didn’t fit in it,” he said. “I had to call a wardrobe person in and go, ‘Something’s wrong with my thong, you guys. I think we’re gonna have to figure this out,’ and they’re like, ‘Uh, yeah your legs are in the wrong holes.’ So, that was step one.” He went on to explain that there’s a technique to tearaway clothes, and that director Steven Soderbergh made him feel like he was shooting a documentary. Combine those two thoughts, and you have the makings of the best DVD featurette ever.
Co-star Joe Manganiello, meanwhile, dished to the LA Times’ Ministry of Gossip about the routines in the film, which is a comedy. (“It’s like Animal House and Hangover funny,” Manganiello said.) Each stripper has his own theme.
For example, ”Big sexy Kevin Nash has his Tarzan thing, I’ve got my fireman thing, Matt Bomer’s got a doctor thing going on, Adam Rodriguez does a Latino lover bit,” he explained. So that leaves us with what, a cop (any reason to embed Gregory Harrison below!), a cowboy, and a fly boy/astronaut for Channing Tatum, Matthew McConaughey, and Alex Pettyfer? Fingers crossed.
Also of note, Manganiello told Celebuzz that we won’t be seeing full frontal (nice to have it officially confirmed), and that he and Bomer knew each other at Carnegie Mellon drama school and even spent Thanksgiving together once at Manganiello’s mother’s house. (People who appreciate Jon Hamm and Paul Rudd being old friends will enjoy that fact.)
