The battle for first place in the NFC gave NBC a huge win on Thursday: The showdown between the Giants and the Cowboys earned a 6.9 rating/17 share in the key demographic and 18.6 million viewers, according to early estimates.
CBS – buoyed by its own Raiders-Packers game earlier in the day – came in second in the demo (3.2/8), with the combination of 60 Minutes and The Amazing Race finale from 8:30 to 9:30 earning a 3.2/8. In fact, the NFL overrun pushed everything back for the night, so the rest of Race encroached in the 9 p.m. hour, so it combined with The Good Wife earned a 2.4/5, while Wife with CSI: Miami posted a 2.0/5.
Fox was third, with The Simpsons averaging a 3.0/7, followed by The Cleveland Show (2.3/5), Family Guy (3.1/7), and American Dad (2.5/6). ABC trailed in fourth with a repeat of America’s Funniest Home Videos, an original of Once Upon a Time (2.9/7), and the movie Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
In viewers, football on NBC was naturally the most-watched event of the night (22.5 million). For dramas, The Good Wife averaged the most in its first half hour at 11.7 million. Among the animated comedies, The Simpsons is still the one to beat in viewers (6.4 million).
One little fun fact about Once Upon a Time: The show’s a hit with the young princesses. It led the night among females 12-17 with a 3.1/9.
