Barbara Walters announces 2011 Most Fascinating Person. It's...

Herman Cain Barbara Walters

Barbara Walters Presents: The 10 Most Fascinating People of 2011 just aired, and in addition to previously announced honorees such as the Kardashians and Herman Cain, the number one spot, as is the standard, was left secret until the broadcast. SPOILER ALERT! The 2011 Most Fascinating Person was (drumroll please)…

Steve Jobs.

A shocking choice, as Walters explained, because her rule has always been that the “Most Fascinating People” have to be living. When Jobs announced his retirement last summer, she said she knew he would be her pick. When he died, she decided to keep him on the list because, much like Jobs believed, “rules were made to be broken.”

Given that many assumed he wasn’t eligible, the pick is certainly unexpected. But of course, on a list that also included Pippa Middleton and Donald Trump, it’s nice that the MOST Fascinating individual is someone whose contributions will be felt long beyond 2011.

PopWatchers: Do you agree? Who would be your pick for Most Fascinating this year?
