Sinead O'Connor explains 16-day marriage: 'It felt like I was living in a coffin'

Sinead O’Connor might not have been involved in the most famous divorce of 2011, but fans and curiosity seekers alike are still wondering what broke up her 16-day marriage to Barry Herridge. Luckily for them, O’Connor – who, earlier this year before meeting Herridge, wrote on her blog that she was searching for a “sweet sex-starved man” – likes to share.

Speaking with Britain’s The Sun, O’Connor said the marriage made her feel as though she was “living in a coffin.” “It was going to be a coffin for both of us, and I saw him crushed … The whole reason I ended it was out of respect and love for the man.”

And what of the comments on her blog claiming the couple split in part because of “a bit of a wild ride i took us on looking for a bit of a smoke of weed for me wedding night”? According to O’Connor, she brought Herridge on a hunt for marijuana following their wedding. “We ended up in a cab in some place that was quite dangerous,” she told The Sun. “I wasn’t scared – but he’s a drugs counselor. What was I thinking? Then I was handed a load of crack. Barry was very frightened – that kind of messed everything up a bit, really.”

But O’Connor seems to be more frightened by the prospect of marriage itself. As the “Nothing Compares 2 U” singer told The Sun, “I don’t think I will even date anyone.” [Via People]
