Crooner Harry Connick Jr. is coming to Law & Order: SVU.

He’ll play a love interest for Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) in a four-episode arc. Connick Jr. will play a “dedicated, straight-shooting” assistant district attorney named David Haden who’s assigned a case with Bensen when sparks begin to fly. According to a release from NBC, Benson is at first hesitant to get close to Haden before realizing the two are a good team. “As the case develops, so does their relationship,” says the release.

Benson is a lucky girl — and Hargitay knows it. “This is a home run on so many levels,” Hargitay said in a release. “The show is very fortunate to have Harry’s extraordinary talent, and I’m lucky because I get to work with my friend. I think Olivia couldn’t have asked for a better companion to take her through a new stage in her life and career.” To see Hargitay and Connick on set, watch the video after the jump.

Connick’s first episode airs Jan. 18. Is it too much to ask Smash star Debra Messing to walk over to SVU‘s set for a Will & Grace reunion?
