Glee wanted to get away from the gimmicky tribute episodes this season. But man, they sure do help the ratings.

The Michael Jackson tribute episode of Fox’s Glee delivered 9 million viewers and a 3.6 adults 18-49 rating. That’s up 16 percent, giving the episode the musical’s best ratings since October. After that, New Girl (7.2 million, 3.5) was up 3 percent. Yet Raising Hope (4.7 million, 2.1) was down 9 percent.

So Fox won the night, a victory made less splashy since CBS and ABC aired mostly repeats. ABC did have the finale of Celebrity Wife Swap (5.6 million, 1.9), falling 10 percent to a series low. The reality spin-off seems unlikely to return, unless ABC opts to air it during the summer or on Friday nights. NBC’s Biggest Loser (6.1 million, 2.1) was steady. The CW had a stable 90210 (1.4 million, 0.7) and Ringer (1.4 million, 0.6).
