Season 2 of Downton Abbey hits DVD and Blu-ray tomorrow (Feb. 7), which means American fans will have to decide whether to buy it now to see the final episodes early or wait until the season 2 finale airs on PBS Feb. 19. But on the release, you’ll find more than 32 minutes of bonus features focusing on Downton’s evolution from private castle to convalescent home, why romance blossoms in a time of war, and the fashion and uniforms of World War I. In our exclusive clip below, actress Laura Carmichael explains why the wardrobe for Lady Edith’s brief foray into tractor driving excited her. It wasn’t just because she got to wear trousers (with a day corset), it was because she got to try on the pants Meryl Streep wore in Out of Africa. Carmichael was “gutted” when she learned the costumers were making her new pants in her second fitting. But there is a happy ending: Carmichael believes she did wear one of Streep’s blouses from the 1985 film.
