We gave it an A

Producer-director Roger Corman may be the guy who gave us such dubious works as 1981’s Galaxy of Terror and 2010’s Sharktopus. But he’s also the guy who kick-started the careers of Jack Nicholson, Peter Bogdanovich, Robert De Niro, and Martin Scorsese. All of these ex-employees of the legendary schlockmeister turn up in the terrific documentary Corman’s World (2011, R, 1 hr., 29 mins.) to pay tribute to him — and/or bitch about his on-set cheapness. Like much of Corman’s output, this movie is swiftly paced and hugely entertaining. But director Alex Stapleton also convincingly makes the case that Corman is — as Scorsese says in an interview from the EXTRAS — one of America’s most important filmmakers. A
