Rob Lowe is quickly becoming Lifetime’s go-to guy for sordid crime trial docudramas. After his turn this past January as Drew Peterson in Drew Peterson: Untouchable, Lowe will next star in the network’s upcoming movie Prosecuting Casey Anthony as Jeff Ashton, the prosecutor in the Casey Anthony trial. The Casey Anthony trial dominated the news in 2011, when Anthony was acquitted in the murder of her two-year-old daughter, Caylee. The trial grabbed attention due to its gruesome nature and what many perceived to be overwhelming evidence against Anthony that came out in the trial. The film is based on a book by Ashton and according to the network “will examine what the prosecution got right, what they got wrong and why Ashton remains convinced of Casey Anthony’s guilt.”
“We’re thrilled to have Rob returning to our network, after his amazing star turn as Drew Peterson. He’s one of those rare stars who can do it all, comedy, drama, heroes and villains. There are very few actors in the history of our business who have been able to have such success on such a broad range,” Rob Sharenow, Executive Vice President, Programming, of Lifetime Networks, said in a statement.
