A few months ago, after a random photo leaked online, the Girl Scouts of America reluctantly confirmed that a special candy bar based on their famous cookies was in the works from Nestlé. This morning, to help celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Girl Scouts, the delicious new diet-killer was officially unveiled. “When word of this irresistible combination of Nestlé Crunch and Girl Scout Cookie flavors leaked earlier this year, consumers started calling,” said Nestlé spokesperson Tricia Bowles, in a statement. “One said he’d give us all of his money for Nestlé Crunch Girl Scout Candy Bars! Another said she’d do ‘anything’ to get her hands on some, and our retailers seem to feel the same way. Fans should be ready to buy ‘the world’s most valuable candy bars’ before they are all gone!”
See, this being the Girl Scouts, these treats have a self-imposed expiration date. Just as their famous cookies can only be purchased “in season” (and heaven forbid if we were allowed to order them online!), the new candy bars – which come in Thin Mints, Caramel & Coconut (hello! Samoas!), and Peanut Butter Crème – go on sale tomorrow. A limited pre-sale supply is being made available on Facebook, and when they run out, you’ll have to wait for June 1 for the limited edition candy bars in stores. By September, Nestlé expects all their inventory to be gone… sooner if people eat theirs as quickly as I consumed mine. I recommend the Thin Mints, which taste like a refreshing oversized Kit Kat bar.
Taking a page from the Willy Wonka playbook, the Scouts and Nestlé are also putting three limited edition candy bars from the production’s first run up for auction. Heritage Auctions is anticipating bids of more than $100 for each, which seems high until you remember how your roommate polished off that entire box of Tagalongs during a single freakin’ commercial. All proceeds will benefit the local Girl Scouts council, Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles, so wannabe Veruca Salts can stuff their faces while also nourishing their spirit.
