Okay, if you haven’t watched the season 3 finale of The Vampire Diaries yet then please stop reading now and get your priorities straight!
Now that the obligatory disclaimer is out of the way…
WHAT.JUST.HAPPENED. I thought my reaction to tonight’s episode would be all about Elena’s choice or Klaus’ apparently-not-so-final send-off. But really who cares about all of that when Elena is a vampire? A VAMPIRE.
I knew that this episode was going to be epic—and it was—but I absolutely was not expecting the writers to take it this far so soon. Too soon maybe.
I mean don’t get me wrong, I loved the way the story unravelled (be honest, how many times did you sob?), but I’m not sure I’m ready for Elena to join the Salvatore brothers in the land of the undead. Can anyone really imagine her downing shots of blood? Or ripping people’s hearts out?
And speaking of the brothers…Elena’s new “state” pretty much renders her choice—it was Stefan for the record—completely useless. Who knows who she’ll care about (if anyone) once she completes the transition? (Also, let’s not forget that Stefan’s decision to save Matt first—which he did out of respect for Elena—was a big game-changer tonight. I’ve got a feeling Damon won’t let that one go anytime soon, especially since he made it very clear early on that he would save Elena against her will if he had to).
We’ll have an exclusive Q&A with Julie Plec going up at midnight ET to hash out all these questions, but until then I leave the floor to you… UPDATE: Our chat with Julie Plec is live.
Do you think this bold move will pay off? Are you excited about Elena turning into a vampire? Or are you secretly hoping Bonnie has another magical trick up her sleeve that will turn our favorite Gilbert (sorry Jer) into a living breathing human again? Go!
