After 50 years and 23 films, it is tough to come up with something new to do with that Bond-in-the-gun-barrel sequence that has been opening 007 movies since Dr. No. Turning it into part of the plot in 2006’s Casino Royale — during the men’s room fight, Daniel Craig swivels his pistol at the camera and makes his first kill as a double-0 agent — was the last inspired innovation. But let’s give some kudos to whatever design team thought up this teaser poster for Skyfall, which will be opening in the U.S. this November. Having Craig appear to be actually walking into the barrel is a clever twist we haven’t seen before.

Naturally, the poster reveals no details about Skyfall’s top secret plot — it simply states “Coming Soon” — but the worried expression on Craig’s face and the fact that his own gun is lowered evokes a sense of menace. Let’s hope Sam Mendes’ movie is just as clever.
