Cee Lo Green is busy coaching on NBC’s The Voice, writing a memoir, working on multiple albums, and prepping a residency in Las Vegas. But he isn’t stopping there: EW has exclusively learned that Green is taping a guest spot on TV Land’s new sitcom The Soul Man this week.
The TV Land comedy stars Cedric the Entertainer as Reverend Boyce, a former R&B star, and Niecy Nash as his wife, Lolli. Green is set to appear as – what else? – a flashy rival preacher who’s stealing congregation members from Boyce’s church.
The Soul Man premieres on TV Land June 20 at 10 p.m. and follows Boyce as he moves home to St. Louis with his family to preach at his father’s church where his clan has to adjust to their new, humble life. The show was originally a spin-off of TV Land’s successful comedy Hot in Cleveland, which featured Boyce in the Aug. 24, 2011, episode “Bridezelka” alongside series stars Betty White, Jane Leeves, Wendie Malick, and Valerie Bertinelli. Soul Man producers include Cleveland producers Suzanne Martin, Todd Milliner, and Sean Hayes, along with Soul Man star Cedric the Entertainer and showrunner Phoef Sutton.
Other guest stars set to appear on the show’s first season include Anthony Anderson, Tamar Braxton, Trina Braxton, Kim Coles, Robert Forster, and Sherri Shepherd.
