HankMed’s newest doc, Dr. Jeremiah Sacani (Ben Shenkman), has certainly proved that he has some personality challenges to overcome. But could his challenges turn out to work in his favor?

In this clip from tomorrow’s new episode of Royal Pains, Dr. Sacani goes on a call with Divya (Reshma Shetty) — who has little patience for his blunt manner. Despite a rough start, he ends up proving that he can be an asset to HankMed.

“In this scene, there’s a moment when he and Divya begin to see that there might be some potential for this guy because he thinks a little bit outside of the box,” Shenkman tells EW. “It underlines something nice about the character, which is that he has very distinct vulnerabilities but also distinct strengths. When one situation brings out both — shows his weaknesses and strengths — that’s a great story point for any character.”

The episode, he adds, “also has a little bit of a surprise in it” and will see appearances from familiar faces (like Michael B. Silver as Keller). “I think one of the cool things about this episode is that there’s a little bit of a riddle about how these three patients all wind up with a related condition, and it pulls in characters we’ve seen before,” he says. “And that’s set against the backdrop of HankMed trying to operate in this split way.”

In last season’s finale, Hank (Mark Feuerstein) quit HankMed after clashing with brother Evan (Paulo Constanzo) over business practices, and this season saw the addition of Shenkman.
