An exit plan is in the works for a veteran of morning television. NBC is planning to replace Ann Curry, who replaced Meredith Vieira as the co-anchor of Today a year ago.

The New York Times reports that talks to replace Curry have been occurring in secret for weeks, while the news brass finds a new assignment for the veteran reporter. She has held several positions on Today for 14 years, most notably as its longtime news anchor.

Today continues to hold the No. 1 spot in the race for viewers but Good Morning America is nipping at its heels with its very popular team of anchors that include Robin Roberts and George Stephanopoulos. This spring, it beat Today for several weeks.

Multiple reports say the likely replacement for Curry is Savannah Guthrie, the co-host of Today’s 9 a.m. hour.
