Just as the summer literally heats up and discerning movie audiences begin to cool on the weekly barrage of pounding action blockbusters, the Sundance smash Beasts of the Southern Wild will roll into theaters on June 27. In the award-winning film, which was also embraced at last month’s Cannes Film Festival, first-time actor Quvenzhané Wallis (pronounced Kwah-VAHN-Jah-Nay) plays a spirited girl named Hushpuppy who joins a band of survivors and tries to rescue her father after a Katrina-like flood wrecks their Delta homes. Watch an exclusive clip below, as Hushpuppy narrates putting the pieces back together after the rains finally stop.

The film, from first-time director Benh Zeitlin, will open in theaters on June 27.
